Course Summary

This course is an investigation of the possibilities of animation beyond the traditional screen-based viewing experiences. Through an overview of the technical history of film, animation, video, and projection, students gain an understanding of the experimental nature of the medium. Through an introduction to contemporary artists and practices, student learn of possible paths of exploration and develop the context for producing their work. Students then explore these techniques or experiment upon them via a series of exercises involving the situation of media in specifically assigned spaces. With their final project, students develop a concept more fully and install their work on or off site as part of a class show and installation.
